DIY Silhouette Art

I have a crafty project to share with you today. My brother will soon be moving to Nashville for school so we wanted to create a some art that he could hang on his walls. I found this DIY Silhouette tutorial from Pinterest from The Creativity Exchange. It is pretty easy to create and requires minimal supplies.

Materials Needed:

Contact Paper

Spray Paint

Step 1:

Take a picture of your pooch. This may be slightly difficult depending on how wiggly your dog is LOL. My brother does not actually have a scottie, but he loves them, so this was just a stock photo from the internet.

Step 2:

Enlarge your picture to the size you want it to be on your canvas and print on regular paper. I imported the picture into Picasa (Google’s picture editing software) and used the poster option to blow up the image to the perfect size.

Step 3:

Next, I taped the picture to contact paper and cut out around the dog.

Step 4:

Remove the printed picture from the top of the contact paper and the backing from the contact paper. Press onto your canvas. Make sure to not have any bubbles. Use a credit card to press the contact paper to the canvas and create a secure hold.

Step 5:

You are ready to paint! Choose your favorite color and paint away.

Step 6:

Once your painting is completely dry, remove the contact paper to reveal the white silhouette. If there is any imperfections, you can use a bit of white paint to touch up the silhouette.
